In Topic: And how was your day???

A few years ago when I was thinking about retiring, I signed up on a bunch of last-minute/cheap-ticket airfare websites.  Usually I just delete them with the junk emails I get, but the other day one caught my eye ...

$288 roundtrip, Boston <--> Paris.  Available flights as far out as October something.  I have seen cheaper, but not in a while, and not with a two week stay in September.  Mazatlán summer is still brutal in September, so someplace else is a perfect place to be.  I've always wanted to go to Europe, but have said I want to stay for a couple of months and do it right.  Well, this is a couple of weeks.  I wouldn't be able to fit everything that I want to do/see in, but it does get me there, and I can see a LOT of things in a two week period (travel between major cities/countries is often just a few hours).  I have over 200,000 airline miles racked up so getting to/from Boston isn't much more of an expense.

I bought tickets.  September 17 through October 1.  I'm thinking of trying to visit these cities:  Paris, London, Brussels, Amsterdam, Munich or Berlin, Vienna and Budapest.  I'll probably have to drop one or two cities out of the mix when I get to the point of checking train timetables.  Budapest is out of the way, but my paternal natural grandparents were from Hungary, so I'd like to go.  London is probably the spot that will be on the chopping block first, and I won't spend too much time in Paris as I am really only interested in seeing the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre (I know, the Louvre could take days to see properly).

So, question for those who have been, or who have planned on going - what would you see/do and why.  Places easy to get to, and centrally located would be best.  I'll be visiting major cities only, staying in hostels, and taking subways whenever possible.  Davy suggested I only ride the high speed trains between each place, so that'll cost me a little more, but give me more time to wander.  I'm also going to only travel with my small backpack and 3 days worth of clothes, so I won't be doing anything requiring me to play dress-up :)

Woo!

Don't cheat and steal from cheaters and thieves.  Unless you want to find yourself taped to a lamp pole.  I think it's more effective than the beatings/killings.

Around Mazatlán, if you're branded a rat, this is the treatment you get.  They don't shoot you.  No decapitation or bodies hanging from bridges.  Just humiliation.  And sometimes a very nice ass on display.
