That is a stunning picture. Makes me want to go to the airport for the next plane to Tuscany. Forgotten what the nearest airport is. Milan ??? No no no. It's Florence or is that Firenze ? Keo

Truth is I don't know if this is Mount St. Helens or not. Another stray/misplaced pic I found on my PC while doing some housekeeping. But whenever I see photos of a volcanic eruption, I think of David Johnston's last words. I don't know why that sticks in my head so vividly. I suppose it does for many people.

I just got that in the mail today (thanks Maxman ;) )! Nice pullout in the magazine and some very interesting pictures - the cgi enhanced views are extraordinary. B)

I don't know about Mount St. Helen's but that is definitely not Vancouver. :P

He was referring to the city of Vancouver, Washington. He was radioing a base camp that was called Vancouver. I'm not sure if the base was actually in the city or just named after it. Vancouver is about 60 miles SW of Mount St. Helens. He was a young, promising, dedicated (and pretty good looking), vulcanologist. He was killed by the eruption, most likely within seconds, after his last radio message of: Vancouver! Vancouver! This is it!
